Origin of adhesive tape
Filed in the UK and the US on 30 May 1928, Drew developed a very lightweight, one-press adhesive, which was later improved to invent clear tape. So why does tape stick to things? It’s because it’s coated with an adhesive, of course!
The earliest adhesives came from animals and plants. In the nineteenth century, rubber was the main ingredient in adhesives. While in modern times, various polymers are often used. Adhesives stick to things due to the formation of bonding between their own molecules and the molecules of the attached item, which holds the molecules together securely.

Classification of adhesive tape

Introduction and application notes of several common adhesive tapes
BOPP tape is a BOPP film as a substrate, coated with water-based pressure-sensitive adhesive and then slit into strips of tape. It has thin thickness, transparent appearance, low cost, wide application and high cost performance.
Characteristics: strong adhesive force, high tensile strength, good waterproof and weather resistance, wide range of temperature difference.
Application: It can be used for all kinds of export outer box packaging, with firm performance and certain protective effect.
Cloth-based adhesive tape is made of mesh fabric treated with PE resin and coated with oil-based pressure-sensitive adhesive to make single-sided adhesive. It has excellent initial adhesion, waterproof and moisture resistance. Therefore, it is suitable for the bonding of weight class items.
Characteristics: Strong adhesive force, easy to tear, high fatigue resistance, moisture-proof, does not cause deformation when cut.
Application: Suitable for packaging of heavy weight items. It can be used to protect machines against dust, moisture and scratches. It can also be jointed with carpet and play a protective role for telephone line. It is widely used in industry, also can be used for booklet, folder reinforcement, anti-slip, printing, silk screen, hardware and electrical appliances.
Kraft paper tape is made of kraft paper and coated with pressure sensitive adhesive. It is glued on one side with high strength adhesion. Good weather resistance, waterproof, anti-freezing, easy to tear, it is an ideal green product.
Features: strong adhesion, high tensile strength, can be torn by hand without deformation, non-polluting, can be recycled again.
Applications: paper splicing, box sealing.
PVC protective film adhesive tape is made of PVC film substrate coated on one side with acrylic adhesive or acrylic adhesive, excellent adhesion performance, one-sided adhesive, no residual adhesive, good masking performance, with wear-resistant and solvent-resistant.
Characteristics: strong anti-tension, good cold resistance, anti-aging properties.
Application: suitable for surface protection of various metals, such as: ‘aluminium alloy, stainless steel, glass sandblasting process’.
Electrical adhesive tape is made of soft polyvinyl chloride film coated on one side with rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive. Most importantly, it has good insulating properties, high voltage resistance, high temperature resistance, and high flame retardancy. It is commonly used to insulate and protect electrical parts and wires, and is widely used in electronic and electrical industries.
Characteristics: strong shrinkage elasticity, easy to tear, easy to roll, high voltage resistance, high flame retardant, good weather resistance.
Uses: can be used for wrapping electric wires, air-conditioning ducts. Widely used in electronic and electrical industry for insulation protection.
Aluminium Foil Tape is coated with acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive on the surface of aluminium foil, single-sided adhesive, made of silicone-treated barrier paper. It has good UV resistance, partial chemical resistance, moisture resistance, fireproof performance, etc. It is mainly used in refrigeration, electronics related industries.
Characteristics: bright silver colour, UV resistant, fire resistant, can stop more chemical corrosion, outdoor application, good heat resistance.
Applications: can be used for the reflection of heat and cold insulation insulation wrapping, can be used in pipelines, engine support, can wrap wires to prevent heat, waterproof and dustproof, etc., can also be used for outdoor work.
PET double sided tape is made of PET coated with acrylic adhesive on both sides. The tape colour is generally transparent and black, common thickness specifications for: 0.03-0.25MM. it has good stability, such as thermal stability, chemical stability. At the same time, it has good initial adhesion and adhesion, easy die-cutting processing, good adhesion to plastic, rubber, nameplate; can be applied to a wider range of temperatures and harsh environments; long-term temperature resistance of 100-120 ℃.
Characteristics: good adhesion performance to the substrate, high surface energy plastic, metal sheet has a high bonding strength, temperature resistance, water resistance, with excellent chemical resistance.
Application: suitable for membrane switch upper and lower lines of isolation, bonding, high-performance adhesive to play a very high stability, suitable for the long-term use of the key requirements.
